How to get BACK to Reading.

I needed to break the hiatus that was rapidly building in my reading.

I was struggling to complete a book! I mean, just one book!

I tried reading several books but stopped after the first few chapters for most of them; I could tell I was struggling. After weeks of hoping and waiting for this phase to end with me falling right back in love with my books, I decided to try something different.

I settled for something that checked all the boxes on the list below .

  1. Read something light – no pressure.

  2. Read something you like/love

  3. Read for 15 mins daily.

Read something light – no pressure: This was to break the ice. My default books are non-fiction books on business, entrepreneurship, self-development and emotional intelligence as they almost always leave me with things I could adopt right away. This time, I decided to try something else… I decided to read a novel. The books that endeared me to reading when I was a kid. The kind of books that leave you light, smiling to yourself and/or reading for hours without feeling like it’s some sort of work.

Read something you like/love: I like a lot of my non-fiction books as this site will show you, but right now, I needed to check out other genres that I loved and which also checked the first box – Something light – no pressure. I remember reading so many novels as a child and teenager, and I’ve had a couple of them on my shelf which I bought but didn’t read (they don’t solve as much problems as the non-fictions do; and I didn’t have all the time in the world – my thoughts).

Read for 15 mins daily: I mentioned this in my post about ‘How to read more’. This didn’t work alone this time as I started reading different books but couldn’t sustain the momentum enough to finish any particular book, which is why checking all 3 boxes was essential.

PS: I read my novel in 2 days.

I have finally completed a book and broken my streak. smiles

Sidney Sheldon’s “Are You afraid of the dark” did the trick.

I hope I’m back! And if I’m not, we check those boxes again and again 😊👍🏽

Get back to reading guys.

Cheers!

When God doesn’t make sense… Part Three

BOOK REVIEW: WHEN GOD DOESN’T MAKE SENSE: Holding on to your faith during the hardest times: DR. JAMES DOBSON: 1993: 250 PAGES

  • Establish your foundation not on ephemeral emotions but on the authority of the written word. Our feelings about His inaccessibility mean nothing! His word is more reliable than our spooky emotions.
  • Don’t lean on your own ability to understand, and most importantly don’t lose faith. I believe this is the most aggravating part of the whole saga, cos as humans we rationalize everything, and when we don’t understand things, we are thrown into disarray. We should not try to understand everything, we should aim to trust completely.

When God doesn’t make sense… Part Two

BOOK REVIEW: WHEN GOD DOESN’T MAKE SENSE: Holding on to your faith during the hardest times: DR. JAMES DOBSON: 1993: 250 PAGES

It moves on to explain what the author terms the ‘the Betrayal Barrier’ – the point where Christians get to where they feel betrayed by God about the situation they have prayed, fasted, and called on men of God or a group to pray with them. It exposes the feelings which even Christian leaders and matured Christians face when God has not spoken to them about the matter and they have to watch things spiral out of control as they get or even give the sad news.

Take one more step towards your dream.

DREAM CHASER – TENACITY

When the enthusiasm for a new idea fades, when the passion cools, when the odds against you increase and the results diminish, when it looks as if success is impossible, will you maintain your intensity and keep going? Are you tenacious? This is the mark of people who actually achieve their dream.

Dream chaser!

We all have dreams big and small even intermediate which we hope will all turn out to be the next big thing or bring us 30 billion in the account. So how do we know we are on track? Everyone has said we should dream big, others have said íf we can think it, we can do it (I can still hear it in Mo Abudu’s voice) so how are we sure we can truly do it or are ready to bring our dreams to life.

My first attempt at reading this book was over two (2) years ago. I was still in the intro section when I dropped the book sad & very discouraged. Some questions were asked to get the reader’s understanding about where they were in readiness to achieve their dreams (called the Dream Test) and as I scrolled down I could already tell that my dreams were nowhere near being achieved. I was sad and discouraged (I repeat) or let’s just say I was downcast.

January in blogs! February in view

January

It’s the end of January, the first month in 2017. It’s been an interesting and challenging one especially since I decided to post weekly this year. All I can say, One month down, 11 to go. I expect to be a guru at this at the end of the year.

Thanks to the blog’s followers and readers who support and encourage me to keep at it. I invite you to continue on this journey with me and invite friends to come on as well; it will be worth their time.

Here are the blog posts in January,

I enjoyed the reactions from how social are you? As many wondered where I got all those names from as they searched through. I enjoyed reading Jack Canfield’s book – in how to get from point A to point B. I hope everyone has tried creating their life purpose statement so we can move on to reading it daily. Remember, it may not be perfect the first time. 100% LIFE IMPROVEMENT was a reinforcer and spiritual reminder that we have to play our parts, then we can let God do the rest.

So if you missed any, help yourself to the list above and follow the blog via email so you never miss another.

February

Welcome to February, the month of love… well, so they say. It promises to be an interesting one with 2 business books to be reviewed, a short story and a random/related post.

The only confirmed book for February is

  1. SMALL GIANTS by Bo Burlingham – 10th February

The second will be confirmed later.
Happy February!

Cheers.

New year, Newbies…

2017 outlook for Tosansreviews

Here’s welcoming everyone into the new year. HAPPY NEW YEAR! A toast to freshness and new possibilities.

In the spirit of new starts, I have introduced some newbies on the blog and thought to keep you updated.

1stly, I am increasing posts to weekly! That’s a minimum of 4 posts a month! Yayyy! I hope you are as excited as I am! #stretchingin2017

2ndly, I’m introducing related and random posts. So many times, the books leave me in such high spirits or gives takeaways, which can’t all go in to the book review. That’s where related posts come in.

Random posts are just the opposite and as they sound – random. This could also be short stories.

3rdly, I am going to put up the names of the two books to be reviewed in each month on the 1st day of each month to get you all on the reading journey so we can read together and also share more views on the same book.

NB: Book reviews will be on the second and last week of each month.

I look forward to having your company on this interesting ride. Remember to invite others and follow if you are not already doing so.

 2017 here we come!

Much love.

Tosan A.
